A chess app made for friends
Most chess apps put you in a queue with a stranger. The Chess Code puts you on a board with the person you actually wanted to play. Challenge a friend, get notified when they challenge you back, and keep every game in one place.
- Challenge list with accept and decline, updating live
- Sound and web push notifications for incoming challenges
- Friends list showing who is available right now
- Add to home screen — full-screen PWA, no app store
- Norwegian and English interface
Challenge, accept, play
Send a challenge with the time control you want. It shows up instantly on your friend's screen with accept and decline buttons — accepting opens the board for both of you straight away.
Several ways to invite
Share a one-time invite link, show a QR code for someone sitting next to you, or use your phone's native share sheet and contact picker. Invites expire, so an old link can never be reused.
Everything in one screen
The home screen shows your ongoing boards with live clocks and a Your turn marker, plus a Continue now shortcut to the board you touched most recently.
Frequently asked questions
- Is there an app to install?
- The Chess Code is a PWA. Open it in your browser and add it to your home screen — it then launches full screen like a native app, with no app store step.
- Can I see when a friend challenges me?
- Yes. Incoming challenges appear in a live list with accept and decline buttons, and you can enable sound or web push notifications so you hear about them even when the tab is closed.
- Is it free?
- Yes, the app is free to use and does not require an account.
